after finishing a good movie, i like to watch cast interviews and see what they show me about the people whose faces i just stared at for two hours. after 50/50, i did the same with joseph gordon-levitt. it was quite easy to dim my laptop screen and really enjoy listening to what he was saying rather than looking at his face, something i can’t say for most other actors. not only does he demonstrate a unique insight into the world he is part of, but is also dangerously honest about it, expounding on its faults as well as its benefits. he does not seem to fear hollywood, but understands that as a fan-based institution, its members like him are the ones who define it. from talking about film as an art movement to interviewing common protestors at occupy wall street, he completely invalidates the common stereotype of being one of the socially and politically disconnected divas we hear so much about. he is the most thought-provoking, retrospective, and genuine actors i have come across
